Happy Finds: First Edition

A collection of people, places, and things that are inspiring me or at least impressing upon me something memorable and useful. Here's what I stumbled upon this week. I hope these things bring you joy, are practical, and stir you to try something new this week. Happy Sunday, friends.

Stumbled Upon: Amy Sedaris | Interior Lives

Amy Sedaris has long been one of my favorite actress/comedians. She is utterly charming and her sense of humor is a bit kooky but absolutely hilarious. This week I stumbled on an interview she did for New York Magazine back in 2018 and it was just the light hearted, whimsical, charismatic, humorous home tour I didn't know I needed. Her collection of ceramic food from Tokyo, has me itching to start my own. But! it was the hand-sewn patches on her couch that has inspired me to replicate this diy repair to tattered furniture. Listening to: The Mel Robbins podcast

I was recently introduced to TMRP by a dear friend and I am obsessed! It's not the kind of podcast I typically listen to, so I was hesitant at first. "Every episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast is filled with the motivation and tactics you need plus deeply personal stories, relatable topics and tactical, research-backed advice to help you create a better life." She starts every podcast with the phrase "It's your friend Mel" and by gosh if I don't truly feel as if Mel is my friend. She is relatable, funny, and serves up truth. So far these are my top 3 faves: The #1 Menopause Doctor... (your mind will be blown. I even re-listened to it with my tween daughter-she was grossed out at parts, but enlightened and inquisitive at others), 5 Rules of Money with Tiffany Alice (a.k.a The Budgetnista), and the one episode that gut punched me and is the reason why I am even creating this post, How to Change Your Life in 6 Months. This episode provoked me to share this on instagram.

What I Made: The Best Flaky Biscuits!

I have spent my entire life absolutely intimidated by homemade biscuits. Being a California girl I made the ignorant assumption that homemade biscuits were a thing only Southern girls  could make and make well. DO NOT waste your time believing this totally absurd lie that I had convinced myself of. Last year I took to Pinterest to search biscuit recipes and I stumbled on this one. It was the pictures that tempted me to try this "Best Flaky Biscuits" recipe from What Should I Make For Dinner. Something about this recipe felt approachable and appealing. My family, including my Southern husband, are so happy that I have conquered my fear of baking biscuits. I promise you they are easier to make than you think and they will elevate any breakfast sandwich or soup/stew you might make. As I type this I realize that we are heading into Sumer and soups/stews are not on the menu this time of year. But our overcast, May-gray mornings call for cozy and biscuits with breakfast suit the mood. Simplicity Suggestion: make a double batch, store the uncooked pucks in a container in the freezer and now you have them handy whenever you need for breakfast, dinner, or anytime. I don't know how long they will actually keep, because they don't last more than a month in our home. Let me know if you give these a go!
